Introduction	I'm an IT guy, experienced gardener, apprendice-homesteader, living in the sunny Southland. Working to turn an urban plot into a lush food garden, and attempting to do it sustainably, organically, and while co-existing with other animals and insects and using as little water as I can, given our very dry and at-times hot climate. A bigger challenge than anticipated! And the current 3-year drought is certainly not helping. I'm also working on cooking and preserving foods rather than buying already processed items, baking bread, pickling veggies, making preserves, making syrup with the sugarcane I grow. I'm 90% vegetarian, eating vegan most of the time. weekday vegan. I rarely eat meat, poultry or fish. Trying to decide on eggs and considering backyard chickens for home egg production.
