Introduction | I've been teaching special education since January of 2007. My 1st job was as a resource teacher in an elementary school. In the 2.5 years I was there I taught kindergarten through 5th grade. I left that school to return to the elementary school where I student taught. It was a great decision and I'm currently teaching 4th grade instructional and resource special education. I feel very lucky to be working somewhere I enjoy so much. I originally decided to begin blogging after Googling teacher blogs for ideas in my own classroom. I love the way teachers are able to share ideas and give advice online. I began to think that I too, might have some neat ideas to pass along to fellow teachers. I'm assuming my emphasis will be on reading, writing and math because those are the only core subjects I teach. Although I help support some of my students in those areas, I do not teach them. I'm certified in SLANT, a multisensory, structured language approach to teaching reading and spelling. It is very similar to the Wilson reading program. Behavior management is also a huge part of my job so I hope that I can share some ideas of things that have worked so far for me. |
