| Introduction | I was born in Boston, and have lived all my life in Brookline, MA. I served as an USAF officer in the Korean War after graduating UMASS Amherst in 1952. I graduated BC Law School in 1958, and have practiced law since 1958, now doing mostly pro bono work. I started writing fifteen years ago. My first book, "Voices of Brookline" (2005), was a national finalist for an Award of Merit from the American Association of State and Local History. My second book, "American Jews and America's Game: Voices of a Growing Legacy in Baseball" (Nebraska, 2013), was chosen as the #1 baseball book of 2013 among many by Sports Collectors Digest. Both books are biographical cultural histories based on many in-depth interviews. I am now completing a book on classical music, “Voices of Virtuosi: Musicians Reveal Their Musical Minds.” It seeks to illuminate the psyches of accomplished composers and instrumentalists to discover the sources of musical creation. I have been married since 1963 to Lois (Raverby) Ruttman. In 2013, I had the honor of being elected a Fellow of the legendary Massachusetts Historical Society, founded in 1791. |
