Introduction In 2005 a member of the Rotary Club of Brynmawr, spotted a small article in a magazine, which advertised a water filter called “LifeStraw”. The article intrigued him, and he contacted the Danish manufacturer. The details contained in their reply encouraged him to show them to his Rotary Club, who decided to promote the LifeStraw, and do what they could to donate them to those in need of safe water. The efforts of this Rotary club were increased when at the Millennium, the United Nations gave the world terrible news: “ The need for safe drinking water is denied to many people in this world. Every 15 seconds a child will die as a result of drinking unsafe water. We are committed by the year 2015 to provide this basic human right” The target for this Rotary Club remains the same, “ As Rotarians we are committed to help all those in need. We consider that access to safe water is a basic human right and necessity; therefore our efforts and energies are focused on providing safe water wherever a need is identified”.
