| Introduction | My blog title is reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s "Song to Aging Children Come" from the Alice's Restaurant movie, which long ago captured my imagination - the thought of aging children. I thought it was in the movie Woodstock but did some checking and the memory had played a trick. Probably because this is the 40th anniversary of Woodstock and it’s been on my mind. Not that I was there. I couldn't have been really. I was 2 months shy of my 18th birthday and my parents would never have allowed me to go, not that I really had the resources to do so, since I was at the opposite side of the country and much too timid to attempt to hitchhike 3,000 miles and having learned of it too late, did briefly consider trying to fly, but again, no resources. Besides, I would have just been a blip in the half million souls who were lucky enough to be there. But I digress. I've read many times that no matter how old one becomes, there is usually an age that the mind has captured as being "who you really are." So for some time I have thought of myself as "The Auld Girl" - auld, a bit of a romantic word, evocative of the British Isles, and girl, well, a girl can be any age, can't she? |
| Interests | So many interests, so little time. I love to play in the garden, vegetables, flowers, herbs, and use the fruits of my labors in foodstuffs, crafts, and curative items. I like to sew simple things, like dolls and pillows, shopping bags (so as to reduce the use of plastic shopping bags). I do some knitting and crocheting, easy patterns so far. I have a spinning wheel and am about an advanced beginner in spinning wool. I've spun some dog's fur, and have a bunch more to work with, as well as a bag of camel hair at the moment that needs attention. I also have a weaving loom, but it is a simple loom, not a jack loom which requires that you do math in order to set it up and create your pattern. I make my own soap and toiletries and enjoy the alchemy of that very much. I have rubber stamps and have made cards and creations with those. |
