IntroductionDr. Wallace is an Assistant Professor of History at Danville Community College in Danville, Virginia. In addition to teaching various survey courses, his teaching experience covers the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries in Britain, continental Europe, and the United States. He graduated with a PhD in Scottish History from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, writing his PhD on eighteenth-century Scottish freemasons. In addition to teaching, Dr. Wallace continually devotes time to his own research and writing. While at the IASH, he will research eighteenth-century Scottish clubs and societies with a particular emphasis on the freemasons. He also seeks to publish a monograph based on his PhD, analyzing through British freemasonry the development of popular clubs and societies, and exploring the power and influence of a political, social, and cultural network across Britain and continental Europe. Dr. Wallace also enjoys playing the banjo in the Danville-based "Jus' Cauz Band," a traditional bluegrass group.
