Occupation Director of Product Development / EdTech
Location Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, United States
Introduction In '07, I graduated from UMC with a B.A. in Interdisc. Studies with diverse emphasis areas in Women’s and Gender Studies, Art/Art History, and Sociology, though I dedicate myself to queer studies. I extend this focus in my leadership work on topics of gender socialization, queer community building, and social justice. My enthusiasm for feminist thought and knowledge forms the basis of my leadership ethic and activist approach. In '09, I graduated from ASU, having completed my two-year contract with Teach for America, with an M.A. in Elementary Education. I joined TFA in an effort to take a stand against one of America’s most pressing problems, educational inequality. My path toward TFA was strongly rooted in my social justice background. Today, I strive to bridge the gap between feminist theory and practice. I highly value academic scholarship, but only as the first step. I believe scholarship does not truly live until such ideas are effectively communicated to others. Often, this involves transforming the message in ways that are attainable to a more general audience. My methods for achieving this goal usually surround consciousness raising art, discussion and performance.
