IntroductionAs a photographer, I am particularly drawn to subjects that are imperfect: a crumbling old icon stashed in the closet of an old monastery in Italy, a crushed doll that was found in the dirt in a small village in India, anything rusty. For me, perfection is boring. There is beauty in imperfection and from it, a greater capacity to learn. Although I have exhibited throughout the country, and for decades, it is always an excruciating task for me to write my artist's statement. The truth is, I'm not exactly sure why I'm drawn to some subjects, particularly dolls. For several years, I have photographed dolls. Some are humorous, others frightening. There have been times when a gallery patron is drawn to the images and times when a patron has left because they cannot bear to look at them.
