| Introduction | Dr. Uthra Rajamani is a scientist by profession who established a molecular mechanism involved in Diabetes mediated cardiovascular complications. Her research in cardiovascular physiology probed the causes of cardiovascular diseases in Diabetes. She is a winner of the prestigious Wyndham prize awarded by the Physiological Society of Southern Africa 2009, Astra Zeneca Health Science Research Day prize 2010,the best oral presentation awarded by the post doctoral society of Stellenbosch University 2010 and latest a “Special recognitions” Award by IKUSASA for her outstanding contributions in science and achieving amidst challenges and being a role model to the society.Her present research at the University of KwaZulu Natal is in neurophysiology on HIV-Dementia, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer's diseases.She is also involved in community programmes – Keynote speaker at the Youth Symposium 2011 by the Department of Arts and Culture aimed at encouraging youth to overcome challenges they face. She was also listed among the Top 200 Young South Africans by the Mail and Guardian in 2010.Not just a scientist, Uthra also has an artistic side as she actively performs concerts as a classical vocalist |
