Tamara Taylor - Turkmen Kangal Dogs
My blogs
| Introduction | A small farm owner since 1975, I went from simply owning dairy goats to running a commercial dairy with my husband. Early in our goat days, we discovered that we needed livestock guardians. We got Akbash Dogs in 1985 and Kangal Dogs from Turkey in 1988. In doing so, we became foundation breeders for these breeds. We still have goats and our dogs. I spend my time judging dairy goats, teaching writing in university ESL classes, and doing some freelance writing when I am not enjoying the cows, the goats, the dogs -- or my grandsons! I also devote time to various livestock producer groups giving presentations about predation control and particularly the use of livestock guard dogs in that role. Our goal has been to preserve the Turkish native dogs as they were originally bred in Turkey -- working livestock guardians with good dispositions and sound conformation. To that end, we have found ourselves showing some of our dogs to increase public awareness of these wonderful creatures. |
