Introduction Te Ropu Awhina o Wairoa Trust has provided Maori cultural and educational programmes for children, high school and adult students in Howick, Pakuranga, Botany, Whitford and beyond. The programmes were run from Torere, the Whare in what was called the Owairoa Marae. Thousands of national and international visitors have experienced a Maori cultural welcome, hospitality and cultural exchange in Torere. In 2004 Torere was badly damaged by fire and Manukau Council has been hampered to rebuild the whare. But in 2010 Te Roopu Awhina look forward to Torere being rebuilt, and schools being able to return. Programmes range from Pre-school Puna through primary and secondary school. Kapahaka support and training for teachers and students is available on site or in-schools throughout the Howick Ward. Te Ropu Awhina provides maori cultural support, advice and counselling to all schools and community groups.
