| Introduction | Having taught in public schools on high school, middle school and elementary levels for 35 1/2 years, I first created a workshop on bully prevention in 2000. I was attending a workshop on how to disarm a student with a gun when I realized that I didn't want to know how to do that and that there must be something else we could do way before something so drastic would be necessary. Having given workshops to teachers, parents, and students on this subject since then I am convinced that we can meet the challenges of bully behaviors and empower the bystander while teaching truly inclusively in our classrooms. I am also a qualified instructor for a 1 credit graduate level course, Bully Prevention through NYSUT's Education and Learning Trust. I formed a company called Brain Works Naturally in 2003 (www.brainworksnaturally.com) and offer a wide variety of workshops and trainings related to creating a positive learning environment in the classroom. |
