Introduction Christina Callicott is a cultural anthropologist, ethnobotanist, and ethnomusicologist. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Florida, as well as graduate certificates in Tropical Conservation and Development and Latin American Studies. She works with the Kichwa of San Martín, an Indigenous group of the Peruvian Amazon who were prominent purveyors of contemporary ayahuasca shamanism throughout the Amazon. Broader interests include psychedelic medicines and the ethics of drug legalization, biocultural conservation, Indigenous rights, Indigenous social and environmental movements, and medical and environmental anthropology. She is an adjunct professor at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, and serves on the editorial board of the journal Anthropology of Consciousness. Outside of academia, Christina is a journalist, ski instructor, songwriter, and river guide.
