| Introduction | I was born with Gets-Bored-Easily-itus and I have developed a bit of Don't-Pin-Me-In-aphobia over the years. To treat these conditions, I take Meandering-Around-the-Globe medicine, and In-Pursuit-of-the-Unconventional therapy. My doctors, Inner Wisdom and Universal Healer, have also directed me to journal about my condition. If this was a book, chapter titles might be Sweet 16 in España, A Master’s of Arts in Misery in Italy, and The Toughest Job--Peace Corps in Guatemala. Or, if this was an advice column, there might be articles on how to move with your kids to Costa Rica; tour Cuba before everyone else does; or how to learn Swahili in 30 days. For now, I just want to tell my stories--like about the camel ride salesman in Giza; or the search for Harpy eagles in the Darien jungle. I might tell about the near-panic-attack moments--like when I was locked inside a Santorini hotel room; or about being stalled in a dark subway deep beneath London; or about being in an airless tent while lions roared and zebras shrieked just on the other side of the canvas in the Serengeti. My hope is that you will laugh a lot, learn a little, and, perhaps, be inspired to globe-trot. |
