| Introduction | As I grew up in a small town in South Mississippi, I thought I would never get out of there and see the real world. Well, I still haven't seen much of the world, but I did make it out of the small town. Only thing, I didn't realize just how good I really had it. I didn't know you could buy vegetables in the grocery store until I was in my early 20s. Looking back, we ate like royalty with our fresh vegetables, local honey, and freshly butchered meats (beef, pork, deer). As I am making my life in New Orleans with my husband, I am desparately trying to grow my own vegetables in the small space provided in the NOLA suburbs. We bought a house in the spring of 2015, and I am focused on getting accustomed to the soil here vs. back home. This blog will be a record of my trials and hopefully successes of figuring out the perfect conditions for my vegetable and herb gardens. |
| Interests | Reading, gardening, and spending time with my two children has been my main interests for many years. However, I have found a new love as well. I began teaching English to high school students in the fall of 2007. After many years of jumping around from clerical job to clerical job, I believe I have finally found my professional calling. I moved to New Orleans in the fall of 2011 and have been teaching here for the last four and a half years. It has been an adjustment for this "county girl come to town." |
| Favorite movies | So, so many. Godfather, Scarface, Braveheart, Steel Magnolias, Romeo and Juliet, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potters, Star Wars (all 6)... so many more |
| Favorite music | Anything instrumental. I have found in my aging process that lyrics in music are beginning to just be noise. There are a few singers.... such as Norah Jones, Harry Connick, Jr., Jack Johnson, David Gray, Dido.. just to name a few. I love to listen to jazz, especially Miles Davis, Harry Connick, Jr., Thelonius Monk, John Coltrane. |
| Favorite books | Anything by Stephen King, all 7 Harry Potters, Moll Flanders, Their Eyes Were Watching God, The Country Wife, Atlas Shrugged ... again, too many to name. |
