IntroductionHi, my name is Roy Taylor. I work for the RSPB as the Peak District & Humber Reserves Area Manager and I love wildlife and being outdoors! In September 2013 I was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. It is a terminal and debilitating illness. Within 6 months the muscles in my legs had disappeared almost completely and my ability to walk is very limited. Although I can still "hobble" a few yards with the aid of the stick, all my "walking" is now done from a wheelchair. Despite purchasing the best 4 wheel drive wheelchair on the market, the quality of my outdoor experience has diminished massively. Paths I could easily access "yesterday" are out of bounds today. Due to stiles, kissing gates and other obstacles, many public paths are simply INACCESSIBLE. It needn't be like this!!! Roy's Coast to Coast Wheelchair Challenge is about changing access to British countryside: •Southport to Hornsea •215 miles along the Trans-Penine Trail •10 days •Start 24 May 2014
InterestsI have always loved being outdoors! Fresh air, wildlife, birds, walking the dog - they make me feel alive!!!
