| Introduction | Official bio: John is Head of Research, North America for Standard Chartered Bank. He was previously Chief Economist and Strategist for American Express Bank. His book Bubbles and how to Survive them, (Nicholas Brealey 2004) foresaw the dangers of the US housing bubble. The sequel, When Bubbles Burst: Surviving the Financial Fallout was published in March 2009 and looks at how investors should respond to the financial crisis and recession. His Investors Guide to Economic Fundamentals (Wiley, 2002) analysed the links between economic variables and financial markets. John is an advisor to the CFA Institute on the CFA curriculum. During 2000-3 he was Chairman of the UK Society for Business Economists and from 1997-2007 a Council Member of SUERF, the European Money and Finance Forum. Born and raised in the UK, educated at Cambridge University and Washington University, he now lives in Toronto. |
