Introduction The author lives in an 1899 stable in the middle of an historic landmark collection of alley stables. There is much work to do to raise the awareness of the historic contribution of alley lives in DC from the past as well as the present. Alleys - past and present - are a living ecology that is recognized by very few. Their value and potential for revitalization generally appear to be lost on urban planners. His architectural historic preservation philosophy mirrors that of Jane Jacobs and Ada Louise Huxtable. Each one of the extant alley stable buildings in DC has lived many lives. The process of their adaptive reuse as they "unstable" themselves is fascinating. I invite you to share your thoughts, experiences and opinion with the community to enrich the conversation content of this blog. (circa age 10 in the photo)
