| Introduction | I was born and raised in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, to a close and loving family of four kids. My love of sports and writing led to a sports writing job at The Beaver County Times while still in high school. That job led to a full scholarship at Point Park College (now University) in Pittsburgh. After managing a news bureau in Grove City, Pennsylvania, my career blossomed into company newsletter editing, corporate communications, business magazine writing, community relations, and crisis communications. I married Kathy, a childhood friend, had two daughters, and lived in Boise, Idaho; Kennewick, Washington; and Louisville, Kentucky. Life was good. But I was laid off, I couldn't find full-time work (even in fast food), my marriage suffered, my arthritic knees forced me to give up distance running, and on and on. Depression led to drinking, drinking led to alcoholism. But alcoholism led me to God, to Alcoholics Anonymous, and to writing a book about my addiction recovery. (See https://covenantbooks.com/books/?book=corking-the-bottle) And I became inspired to start this new blog in hopes of helping others recover from whatever addictions and afflictions that won't go away. |
