IntroductionAfter being born in Kenya, I lived in Tanzania for my first few months and then got shipped off to London, which has been my home ever since. We have lived in Pinner since I was about 3, and all my memories of growing up are based there. I still hang out with friends from nursery and primary school! I went to University in Manchester where I read Accounting and Law... keeping my options open! I graduated with a 2.1, and although I found both Law and Accounting reasonably interesting, I didn't want to go into either as my future career. So I took a year out to do some traveling and thinking, and finally ended up in banking. I started on the graduate training program at UBS in August 98, just after the Russian default, a year after the South-East Asian crisis and just as Swiss Bank and UBS were merging…interesting times! Three years ago, still at UBS, I got married and moved out to New York with my wife. Now, after almost ten years with the firm, I have decided it’s time for a change and recently resigned. I decided I want to try something more entrepreneurial and perhaps action one of the numerous business ideas I’ve had over the years. So begins a new chapter in my life…
InterestsThe usual...travel, reading, music, films, pubbing (although not so much clubbing any more!), chess, cooking, cycling, skiing, hiking, board games... In fact I enjoy pretty much anything, it's probably easier to say what I don't like - doing taxes (don't mind paying em, just hate preparing them...and I have to do two lots, one for the US and one for the UK!!!), organising administrative things like paying bills, dealing with incompetent helpdesks (in fact, any incompetence annoys me) and cleaning the apartment (a professional can do a much better job!)
Favorite moviesForest Gump has to be one of my all time faves, but then I have a load that are definitely up there - Pulp Fiction (cool soundtrack), Moulin Rouge, cannonball run, Shrek, coming to America, Lost Boys, Vanilla Sky, Rude Awakening, Godfather (the second of course) and probably many more that just don't come to mind right now.
Favorite musicI actually don't have a favorite, it all depends what kind of mood I'm in. Rock, pop, Jazz, 60s, 70s, 80s, dance, chilled, nu-jazz, indian, classical, you name it I got it. Since I don't have the patience to read about new music, and in the absence of a radio for the past 3 years, I like it when people recommend things, so feel free to let me know if you're listening to something good.
Favorite bookswow, another tough one, and difficult to answer due to my incredibly bad memory, but I'll give it a shot: A Suitable Boy was probably the best book I have ever read (those who have read it will understand what I mean). However also up there are Kane and Abel, Mahabarata, the Grapes of Wrath, A Dangerous Fortune, The Sicilian, Shogun, Good to Great, Memoirs of a Geisha, To Kill a Mockingbird
