Introduction Who We Are: Boston's Tenth was started by a group of passionate Red Sox fans. Born and raised in the Boston area, we all grew up with Red Sox baseball in our blood and have always been die hard Sox fans. How we got our name: Boston's Tenth comes from the fight song "Tessie." The song was adopted by "the Royal Rooters," a group of loyal Boston fans who cheered on the then Boston Americans to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates and win the first World Series. Five championships later, the Royal Rooters stopped singing "Tessie" in 1918 and the Red Sox went 86 years without a World Series title. In 2004, the Dropkick Murphys recorded the song, and said it was their intent to "bring back the spirit of 'The Rooters' and to put the Red Sox back on top." After the greatest comeback in the history of sports, we like to believe "Tessie" and Boston's Tenth Man somehow played a part in reclaiming the World Series title.
