| Introduction | Tom Cohn works as a librarian at the Huntington Public Library in Huntington (L.I.) N.Y. In 2005, Carolyn Hasler, now retired from the Huntington Public Library, and Tom started HPL's Great Books Reading and Discussion Group. The group meets once a month at the library except in December, usually on the fourth Monday of the month. We discuss classic works, mostly from the western tradition. Both the discussion technique (the "shared inquiry" approach) and our readers (The Great Conversations series) originate from Chicago-based Great Books Foundation. Tom earned his bachelor's degree in the College of Letters, an interdisciplinary program in literature, philosophy, and history, at Wesleyan University (Middletown, Conn.) and a master's in library and information science from Long Island University in Brookville, N.Y.
