| Introduction | Actually I have been a wild-bird watcher all my life, starting as a little boy in my Grandparents' yard in Bilthoven, The Netherlands. I was lucky to have grandparents with a, for Dutch standards very large, woodsy type property surrounded by forest. This made for a young birder's paradise, and my passion for birds therefore started early! It's interesting though, now that I'm living and birding in the US, I still usually try to link every bird or species I see with their European counterparts. It often makes for an interesting exercise, looking up common Latin and family names and thus determining whether I was right or wrong....(Geek!) |
