Location Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
Introduction The Office of Strategic Information was a short-lived project created by former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. The OSI was charged with planting disinformation in the media around the world to promote U.S. foreign policy interests and to manipulate public opinion. Though this information unit of the Defense Department was officially closed in Feb. 2002, the disinformation project continues to be carried out, either knowingly or unwittingly, by think tanks, policy-makers, government officials, and journalists. This blog officially re-opens the Office of Strategic Information, but will turn Rumsfeld's model upside down. The OSI will now monitor, expose and critique the disinformation being propagated by the various actors aforementioned. As Thomas Jefferson once put it, "Information is the currency of democracy."
