| Introduction | I am 35 years old, and have been diagnosed with Cushing's Disease. I am currently not working or going to school, but instead recovering from the removal of a pituitary brain tumor that causes Cushing's disease, as well as the removal of my adrenal glands that grew too big because of working so hard to produce the excess cortisol. I live with my husband, my daughter, my beautiful dog Sadie, and our new puppy Ellie. I enjoy anything outdoors, but am severely limited in activity due to my illness. I hope by sharing some of my hopes and fears, I can help other young people with chronic and fatal illness. As a side note, the name of my blog is in reference to a common saying you learn in medical school, "hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras." In other words doctors are taught not to jump to the extreme conclusion, but that most things have a simple explanation. As someone with a rare disorder however, I would like to remind us all that sometimes we need to think outside the box. |
