| Introduction | I wanted to take this opportunity to talk about how Applaud magazine began, what its purpose is and a little about myself. Five years ago I was introduced to a digest magazine for crafters. I decided to create a magazine based on my experience as a recent business owner. In starting my own business, I learned how important it was to network, yet found it difficult to get started. Eventually, I did develop a support system, which has been very important to me as I’ve faced the challenges of being self-employed. I developed Applaud because I saw it as another way for women to network, learn and support each other. Through this magazine, I wanted women to share their stories--how they got started, how they have survived, and what they have achieved. After about a year I learned two things: First, I realized that we had something to offer all NH women and I needed to expand the scope of the magazine to include articles by women and men to provide NH women in all walks of live with articles to inform, and inspire them to be the best they could be. | Favorite movies | In 1999, both my parents passed away, and that loss made me reassess my life and career path. I enrolled in the Commercial Design and Illustration program at NH Community Technical Institute in Manchester, NH. After graduating with a certificate in 2001, I started my own graphic design firm. That fall, I decided to bring the knowledge and experience of many of my friends to the public and created Applaud Magazine. Now, after six years I have decided to create a new vehicle online. It includes an online publication which has the capability to turn and print pages or be downloaded in it's entirety. The new website will also be a resource with tons of information that is relevant to women in NH and MA. Now I have found the vehicle that I can use to create that community that I have so wanted to create. So ladies, lets use this blog to share our beliefs, joys, challenges, successes, questions and anything else that will help to make our lives joyful and fulfilling. Lets make this blog a community of women helping women to be the best they can be. Through this blog we can laugh, cry and commiserate as we share our “Wins, Wows and Ughs”--those stories of mistakes we’ve made, things we’ve learned--sometimes the hard way!--and obstacles we have overcome. Through this blog, we can be resources for each other, sharing information about our goods and services, our knowledge and our ideas. |
