| Introduction | "Astonish me" is a quote I first heard from Jane Fonda in a newspaper article. She said it was her motto. Later I learned it was a challenge from Serge Diaghilev, the Russian Ballet director, to the young French poet Jean Cocteau. I used it as my high school senior class yearbook quote. Because I am happiest, still, being astonished. The photo, btw, is an old one uncovered from a shoebox of memories recently. I'm very fond of it. I call it "Paris days." |
