| Introduction | The current generation of college students are devoted consumers of services such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Second Life, Google Buzz, and FourSquare. They text each other while walking, cycling, even driving. They send each other instant messages while sitting in lectures. Cellular devices with “smart” technology—iPhones and Blackberries, for example—allow users to have instant access to data and to each other almost regardless of geographic location. In short, contemporary technology presents many opportunities to be constantly connected—opportunities that most teens, young adults, and even children find irresistible. This seminar will explore the pros and cons of being constantly connected through social media and other contemporary technologies. |
