Introduction	The AVPhD Group was founded in 2009 by Tony Dowmunt, Senior Lecturer in the Media and Communications Department in Goldsmiths, in response to a lack of places where students who were doing audio-visual/practise-based PhDs could discuss their work - in particular to provide a forum for looking at the links between theory and practice. The group started with a focus on documentary based work (broadly interpreted); over the last couple of years the group has had a varying membership, who have been using this platform for sharing work, seeking potential collaborations, participating in a variety of events and providing support for one another's work. It currently holds an 'open-to-all-practice-based PhD's' attitude, while maintaining (as much as possible) a regular attendance at meetings, which are held on a monthly basis.
