About me

Industry Non-Profit
Location Ireland
Introduction My name is Brian MacCormaic. Formerly a professional photojournalist with local and national newspapers in Ireland, I retired from this work in 2002 to begin work as a volunteer in development in Africa, including Uganda, South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania. My work concentrated on educational projects in particular, but also on community development and job creation initiatives. I hold a BA Degree in Development Studies at Kimmage Development Studies Centre, Ireland. Although I have now returned to live in Ireland, my heart will forever be with the communities and the people with whom I worked in Africa, and I continue to maintain close links with them, and the projects we established together. I administer the Harambee Education Fund at Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT Dublin). Harambee is an initiative of teachers and volunteers in the Mukuru slums of Nairobi, Kenya, working in partnership with students and staff at IT Tallaght, to award secondary education scholarships to children living in Mukuru.
