| Interests | Service to others has been an important part of my life for a long time now. I have always felt a strong urge to skip ahead and try to make change at the highest level possible. I volunteer because helping others it’s the only way I know how to live. I very much enjoy the opportunity to directly help others and that there is a satisfaction in seeing something made better... I also enjoy the team work with the people who are benefiting, whether they are able to volunteer as well or not. I volunteer because of the personal connection we are able to make with one another when we step outside of our usual day-to-day routines. When I was pretty young I realized that helping others was a way to help myself. At some point I got very depressed. It was for many reasons, but one of the deepest and most painful was the lack of meaning in my life. I wanted to find out why my life felt hollow, find out what it was lacking. I am 40 years old psychologist, business administrator and volunteer since I was 18 and now after years I can say I’m ready to give my life to making the world a better place in a way I don’t have a life otherwise; I don’t have anything valuable I can lose. Not even love could make me want to live, because love is hollow when it’s just something you do in your free time. For love to be worthwhile, it has to be everything I am. |
