Introduction Simon originally studied agriculture through the University of Sussex and went on to work for the Duke of Norfolk’s estate near Arundel. After a period with private, small to medium sized enterprises, he spent many years with ICI, primarily in their Plant Protection Division at Fernhurst and Jealott’s Hill (now Syngenta) Research Stations. His involvement with the waste, water, energy recovery and recycling industry started in 1991 when he joined Blue Circle Industries in their Waste Management Division. After its acquisition by Pennon Group Plc (trading as Viridor) in 1995, Simon led all the Environmental Compliance, Human Resources, Health & Safety, Sustainability and Training & Development processes of the business thus positioning it as one of the leading UK companies in the sector. He was appointed to the Viridor Board in 2010 where he held the position of HR and Regulatory Director. Simon is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a Fellow of the Institute of Directors. Simon retired from Viridor at the end of 2016 and is now an independent Consultant.
