| Introduction | For many years, I was the Director of External Affairs for the Ackland Art Museum at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This work included the oversight of all aspects of the Museum's fundraising, public programs, events, and publications. Today, I have a similar role at the Duke University Chapel. I am particularly interested in what works of art and faith communities DO...and how museums, churches, mosques, and temples can engage in conversations that might move us toward a peaceful future. Direct encounters hold a curious capacity to increase understanding of the world around us and when we attend - looking carefully and intentionally, listening carefully and with kindness - we become building blocks for compassion. Publications include: A Place for Meaning: Art, Faith, and Museum Culture, distributed by the UNC Press (2009); Lost and Found: adolescence, parenting, and the formation of faith (2004). Other books on faith and faith formation are available from Cowley Books/Rowen and Littlefield. I am an art-maker & writer, with a small studio and a daily practice of drawing and painting. |
