About me

Introduction I have lived with Type 1 diabetes since soon after my 9th birthday, in 1989. I have eagerly adopted new technology to manage my diabetes, starting on an insulin pump in 2001 and integrating continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) into my pump in 2007. I love new glucometers, have ambivalent feelings about endocrinologists, and feel simultaneously amazed and frustrated by the rate of change in the tools available to live a great life with diabetes. I am the only person in my family with diabetes. Caring for oneself is already a very inward and isolating process when diabetes is involved, and this isolation was exacerbated by my not having anyone to talk to who could share in my experience. As I have grown, I have let more people in. My friends and family are now actively involved in the diabetes part of my life. I realize now that my community is full of "Type 3" diabetics: people who love people with diabetes. Sharing has been good so far. I started this blog to share more.
