IntroductionI’ve always enjoyed running as a form of exercise, but since I moved to Boston it has become much more than just a way to keep in shape. I used to run a max of 7 miles in a day, but that soon changed when my busy student-athlete schedule changed to a standard 40 hour work week a year ago. I realized I had a lot more time on my hands, so I started running longer distances. Soon after, I decided I was up for a huge challenge: run the 2010 Boston Marathon while raising money for cancer research at Dana-Farber. I would run in memory of a close family friend, Chuck Harvey, who had just passed 3 months prior after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. This completely changed my idea of running. My experience on the team, attending long group runs on cold January Saturday mornings, having monthly team meetings, raising $8,226 for DFMC, hearing all the fans cheering my name and thanking me, and finishing the marathon in 3:26 (with a BQ for 2011) was an amazing feeling, one that made me compelled to run more. So, soon after, I signed up for the Maine Marathon and my entire family ran it along side me as members of the relay. I am psyched to run the 115th Boston Marathon!
