| Introduction | In 2008 through its strategic plan Panos Southern Africa made an observation that while the media has been communicating HIV and AIDS it needed more targeting in HIV and AIDS interventions than just being used as agents of information. On 18th. June, 2008 a few journalists living with HIV and AIDS from some Southern Africa Development Community countries converged at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka Zambia to reflect on how the media could best benefit from HIV and AIDS interventions. From the meeting delegates committed to return to their respective countries and initiate national chapters of journalists living with HIV and AIDS. The Malawi Chapter was born on 18th. December 2008 at Riverside Hotel in Lilongwe. The meeting was composed of those who had heard the call for membership and stakeholders like NAC, the Media Council, UNAIDS and MANET+ membership. A national leadership was elected across the political regions of Malawi, mainstream media (print and electronic) and gender. The vision, mission, objectives and activities were adopted. |
