About me

IntroductionDespite the fact that I was practically bursting with things to write about, it was hard for me to start this blog. It had to do with the sticky keys on the keyboards in Phnom Penh, my first major stop in SE Asia. It didnt seem to matter what internet shop i went into, there was always at least one (though usually more) key that would stick and be just annoying enough to take the joy out of writing. The more I thought about it though, it wasn't just the keyboards that were sticky - I was sticky. On my 3rd day, I took an afternoon shower and noticed by the time I had reached the Sokha Heng lobby, that I felt dusty again. Somehow, like a magnet, the dirt in the air would stick to my hands and any other exposed parts. And then, as I have learned more and more about the problems in the developing world, and the lives of people here, I realize that there really isn't very much here that isn't sticky. Saving face, the things we choose to share with new friends about our lives at home, and so many other seemingly simple situations somehow get sticky here, just like the rice that sustains the millions of people who call this part of the world home.
