| Introduction | In 1983, at 40 years old, I began my life as a middle-aged hummingbird, traveling the world and living in Israel, China, Taiwan, Macau, Bali, and Korea. I found my career niche as a teacher of English to non-native English speakers. Curiosity, intensity, and the journals I kept along the way were my constant traveling companions. My book, Memoirs of a Middle-aged Hummingbird, published in 2006 and winner of the 2008 First Place in Non-fiction awarded by the National League of American Pen Women, explains my nomadic life in detail. Although still in contact with my former students around the world, I am now a mostly settled senior hummingbird in southern California who is still wondering, periodically wandering, and writing. |
