Introduction	The aim of ‘The extraordinary testing station’ is to evaluate and develop innovative processes for materials and to enquire into how they might be used in a variety of contexts. Joanne Harris, Course Leader of BA(Hons)Surface Design at University of Huddersfield has established a diverse network of industry contacts through curating work exhibited at the international Surface Design Show in London for the past four years. Joanne is currently leading the “Extraordinary Surface testing Station” research project in collaboration with a range of industry partners, academic staff and students at Huddersfield who will be exhibiting at the Surface Design Show in February 2011 The BA (Hons) Surface Design course is the only course to exhibit at the renowned trade show and has become a recognized face for creative exploration with surface materials. Our feature stand will enhance and emphasize the how and why designers research and think!! and innovate Surface materials, our skilled students have been working with Veneers from Leeuwenburgh – Carpets From Ege Carpets, Our final year are discovering new material surfaces in 3D and experimenting with their own sustainable concrete products!
