Introduction I am a retired teacher and writer who cares full time for my grandchildren. We are involved with a play group that visits parks and libraries where we meet other families. I have noticed about a quarter of the children are being cared for by their grandparents. I have taught for 30 years and know many ways to incorporate learning. Cooking is an activity that teaches many skills from math and reading, to science and social skills. It brings joy and bonding between the parent, teacher or grandparent and child. For me, every day brings opportunities to encourage creativity and imaginative play. Put down the i-phone and turn off the TV. Let's all cook and connect with the kids!
Interests I love cooking, baking, and sharing the process with others, especially children.I love hiking, visiting new places, and communing with nature. I love the sea and the mountains and most of all I love to write.
Favorite Movies Notice they are mostly children's movies or musicals! I don't like violence--Heidi, The Secret Garden, Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, Annie, and ET.
Favorite Music My favorite music is mostly show tunes, ballads, pop music from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Oh and I must not forget the timeless ones--jazz and blues. I also love singing along with the princess to kids songs on the "Wiggles".
Favorite Books I love The Poison Wood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. Since I write children's books, most of my favorite authors are: Patricia Palocco, Beverly Cleary, Judy Bloome, Sandra Boynton--too many titles to mention. I probably average reading at least five children's books per day.

Radio wire is often used to make bird nests. What station do they listen to?

If conversation continues to diminish between humans will we eventually digress to grunts and groans?
