Catalan is a Romance language, the national language of Andorra, and a co-official language in the Spanish autonomous communities of the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and Valencia, and in other small areas in Italy and France. Catalan is the seventh most-spoken language in the European Union. The number of people who speak it is greater than those who speak Finnish or Danish, and it is equivalent to the number of speakers of Swedish, and Greek.
