Occupationretired dress designer, teacher, lay minister, now writer

IntroductionEverything about my early life can be found in my illustrated book of childhood memories: When Phones Were Immobile and Lived in RED BOXES. Read the first two chapters at: www.magpiesnestpublishing.co.uk I also have my novels and anthologies on that site. I trained as a dress designer. Later turned to teaching. Took early retirement to train for church ministry. For the last eight years a full time writer. Personal experiences and settings tend to pop up in my stories! All my academic qualifications have been achieved in my middle and later years — as happened with most working-class achievers of my generation. I try to keep a sense of humour in all aspects of life. I can laugh at myself and at oldie jokes. But I wish the media would put less emphasis on faculties lost in old age (cause for laughter) and more on the wisdom gained. We old biddies do know a thing or two!
Interestswriting fiction, drawing, painting, gentle walking, home and family
Favorite moviesI don't go to the cinema. I like period pieces on the TV. In my youth I often went to the 'pictures'. In winter, it was as much for warmth and comfort as entertainment. No central heating at home in those days and little fuel for fires. No comfy chairs either! My heartthrobs? Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Tyrone Power, Gary Cooper. No explicit sex in those days folk! One kiss (no tongues) was enough to send us giddy! Easier to say what I didn't like. We went from school to see Henry V — I dropped off to sleep!
Favorite musicI play my friend, Bob Taylor, singing Elvis. For a sample see: http://www.myspace.com/bobtaylorsingselvis I like all the old rock and twisting songs. (I sometimes put them on to dance to when I am alone.) I enjoy a great variety of classical. But music reduces me to tears (don't know why), so I have to play it sparingly.
Favorite booksNothing esoteric. The most moving I have ever read is Ernest Gordon's Miracle of the River Kwai. If only folk would heed the experienced-gained wisdom of that book the world would be a much better place. (pub from 1963 by Collins) The Bible of course. But NOT Shakespeare.
