| Introduction | Kathleen "Kat" Werner is a breast cancer survivor diagnosed in 2006 at the age of 31. At the time of diagnosis she found her first “opinion” to be outdated, and not the cutting edge treatment her subtype of breast cancer needed. With resolve to seek a better answer, she hit the books, web, and journals to find the best evidence-based therapies. Since that time, Kat has made research advocacy (mostly on breast cancer) her mission. She has been trained by some of the best scientific training programs in the country. Kat’s mission, along with other survivors, is to encourage and enhance the dialogue that is just now becoming a standard in all fields of medicine. This dialogue involves the men and women at the laboratory bench, and the bedside of patients, and in the halls of Congress, and now also includes the voices of the patients. Together, we can change the future for our kids’ generation. She has three young children, 2 daughters and a son and she has been married to her husband, Jeff, for 11 years. Though she represents many different organizations at different times, these opinions here are her own and may or may not represent the opinions of these groups. |
