Introduction About the Novel: A Town, a Team, and a Dream. This is a 1980s non-fiction book written by H. G. Bissinger. The book follows the story of the 1988 Permian High School Panthers football team from Odessa, Texas as they made a run towards the Texas state championship. Every Friday night from September to December, when the Panthers play football, the west Texas town becomes a place where dreams can come true. In 2004, Friday Night Lights was released into a movie on October 6th. About the Author: Harry Gerard Bissinger III aka. H.G. Bissinger and Buzz Bissinger, who was born on November 1, 1954 is an American Journalist and author. Bissinger graduated in 1972 from Phillips Academy and in 1976 from the University of Pennsylvania. After college, Bissinger took up Journalism and while writing for the Philadelphia Inquirer won the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting for his story on the corruption in the Philadelphia court system in 1987. After that, Bissinger wrote 4 books and he is best known for Friday Night Lights which documents the 1988 Permian High fooball seaon in Odessa, Texas.
