| Introduction | Me, with a spontaneous group of roadside fans, Kathmandu Valley 2011. For 15 years I was a successful, widely published photojournalist, travelling the world in dugouts, rickshaws, barges, limosines, choppers, microlites, jumbos, canoes, sneakers, palanquins, elephants: I slept in palaces, mirrored tents, grubby holes in the wall, villas, castles, penthouses, a swimming pool; I danced with Mugabe (ugh, breakfasted with Tutu - cute, shlepped for Mia, watched sight being restored, cremations, animal sacrifices, I survived a plane crash, Holi, eating locusts, dysentry, encephalitis, diptheria, divorce, measles, miscarriages of various sorts, embezzlement, and 6 years in retail, which was the most demanding of the lot! Taking 2011 off to travel where many fear to tread, this book/blog is about my resurrection as a photographer and writer and my physical recovery from a debilitating virus caught while nursing my mother through cancer to her death in Africa. |
