| Introduction | Anastasia Shown is the Assistant Director of the University of Pennsylvania’s African Studies Center. At the African Studies Center, Anastasia runs outreach programs to educate the larger public about Africa. She assists educators, media entities, health professionals, students and businesses in demystifying stereotypes and understanding contemporary Africa. Anastasia fulfilled her B.A. at Indiana University and the University of Ghana, Legon majoring in Women Studies and Sociology. She earned her Master of Social Work degree at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Social Policy and Practice. Anastasia was awarded a Global Health Fellowship in Ghana through the Penn School of Medicine and a Fulbright grant to train U.S. educators in Ethiopia. Anastasia has conducted field work on reproductive health, education, community development, sickle cell disease and water/sanitation. Anastasia is a member of the Philadelphia Global Water Initiative, the United Nations Association, Christian Association and Up with People International. |
