Introduction Around the 11th to 12th century my home begun its life as a small Benedictine priory serving the parish church of St Margaret's which it was then joined to. The priory is now bordered by an ancient stone wall separating the church and the grave yard, from the garden and the building of the priory. Until the dissolution of the Monasteries(1536-1540) the priory housed between 4 and 6 monks who served the local Bishop and carried out duties in the community. Following the dissolution, the priory ceased to be a religious building and over the next centuries was occupied by many different people and gradually, like so many other monastic buildings in the country, fell into ruins. In the early 1970's it was identified as a site of historical importance and value, and what remained of the priory building was restored, and it is now a listed building, and a heritage site. My blog begins from this place. I am interested in what place means for human life and its loss, but my blog is intended to be a 'view from here', on whatever interests me, and perhaps others too.
