| Introduction | I am born on February 28, 1929, I am Frank Owen Gehry. My hometown is in Canada, Toronto. My parents, Irving Goldberg and Thelma Caplanski, are both polish Jews. Irving Goldberg was born to polish immigrants in Brooklyn, New York. I lived a hard life and had to work as a kid after his father died when he was 11. Thelma Caplanski left Poland with her parents, a couple with deep religious morals. Through my childhood, I remember distinctively sitting outside on a sunny day, building little cities out of wood with my grandma. She would always encourage in everything I do. I remember spending time with my father and mother learning about the artistic world. Ever since I was a little boy I have always been creative and artistic.As I got older, I went on a mission to educate myself in art from around the world, so I moved to California in 1947. I started using many other materials such as corrugated steel and chain link fencing. |
