| Introduction | The term black swan comes from the ancient conception that 'All swans are white'. In that context, a black swan is a metaphor for something that could not exist. The discovery of black swans in Australia metamorphosed the term to connote that perceived impossibilities come to pass. By this definition a black swan is a large-impact, hard-to-predict, and rare event beyond the realm of normal expectations. A black swan upsets the balance of all that we perceive to be true. |
