Introduction | Daily work:
Research and networking to increase the odds that humans, and everything else we care about, aren't permanently destroyed by accident. Interests: Existential risks, especially around artificial intelligence. Biases and heuristics: what mistakes human beings are prone to making, and how we can form accurate models of the world as individuals and as thinking communities. Epistemology. What kind of patternedness the world has that makes it possible for us to learn. The applicability and inapplicability of math in the physical world and in the human-made world. The god whose shatter we are (in Vernor Vinge's sense). |
Interests | Existential risks, artificial intelligence, biases and heuristics, rationality, epistemological structure of the natural and engineered world. |
